The following CPP High School seniors were chosen to receive the George Bacalles Memorial Award:

Sara has played an integral role in the success of the Corning Hawks girl’s lacrosse team. She played on the varsity team her junior and senior years, and the JV team her freshman and sophomore years. She was a team captain her 10th grade season. Sara’s lacrosse accomplishments include the All Leader girl’s lacrosse first team, Section IV All-Star second team, 2014 Under Armor Upstate Lacrosse Team, and participation with Relentless Hustle Travel Team. Sara does very well in the classroom. She is a NYS Scholar Athlete, high honor roll in grades 9-12, Corning Community College President’s List, and inducted into the National Honor Society. Sara has been a member of student council all 4 years in high school. Along with Sara’s athletic and academic accomplishments she has also volunteered in several community events. Sara will represent our community well. Next fall when she attends the University on Albany where she will continue her lacrosse career.
Kyle is the kind of student athlete who is so involved in volunteering in his community that you wonder how he became such an exceptional two sport athlete. Kyle has volunteered as a youth basketball coach for the YMCA as well as a youth lacrosse coach for the corning youth lacrosse league and CFA middle school. Kyle volunteers for the Salvation Army, Corning Community Food Pantry, Arctic League, and as a high school reader in the elementary schools. Kyle was also a member of the All Saints Catholic Youth Group. To go along with all of his community service, Kyle has also maintained a 95 average throughout high school which helped him to become a member of the National Honor Society. He will receive an advanced Regents Diploma in June. Finally, to top things off Kyle has excelled in 2 different sports. In lacrosse, Kyle has been a member of the Varsity team for three years. He helped lead the Hawks to their first ever sectional championship in 2014. He was on the first team all-league and all-leader in 2014 as an attackman. He was on the Nike Upstate All Star team, the Top 205 All Star Team, and the Empire State Cup All Star Team in 2013. Kyle will be attending Hobart College in the Fall of 2015 and will be playing lacrosse for them. In football, Kyle was a 2 year varsity player who at quarterback led the Hawks to a sectional championship this season. Kyle was the MVP of the Sectional Championship game. He was also first team all-league and all-leader in 2014 and participated in the Ernie Davis All Star game in 2014. Kyle is the son of Tom and Kay Grimaldi.
Madeline Taylor is a 4 year member of the Varsity Volleyball Team and has served as a captain for the last 2 years. She is a three year All-State Team selection as a libero. She has helped her team to 4 Class AA Sectional Championships and 4 Regional match appearances. Maddy was named to the Corning All Leader team for three years and grabbed player of the year for 2 of those. She is very active with the Crystal City Volleyball Travel Team. She is a great leader on and off the court. Maddy was a member of the Outdoor Track Team as well. . Maddy is a National Honor Society member. She is also active with the band, yearbook staff, and volunteers at Smith and Severn Elementary Schools or a regular basis. Maddy will be attending SUNY Brockport in the fall and will further her playing experience there. She is the daughter of Jennifer and Bruce Taylor.
Ryan Walker is a standout baseball player who excels with both his glove and bat. He was All-Leader and All-STAC while manning the shortstop position and batting lead-off for the 2014 championship team. Ryan was instrumental in leading Corning to their first ever STAC championship by reaching base 7 total times in the semi-final and finals; slugging 4 hits in the championship game alone. His high batting average (.385), base-stealing, run-producing and defensive ability make him one of the best all-around players in the conference and Section IV. Along with playing Varsity baseball for 3 years, Ryan has also been a member of the Varsity basketball for the past 2 seasons. Furthermore, Ryan is just as active and effective off the field as he is on. Ryan is a 2 year member of both the National Honor Society and Student Council, a 3 year member/ Retreat Leader for Faith by Interaction Youth Group and is actively involved with the Sister Cities Italy Foreign Exchange Program. He is also a regular volunteer for the Food Pantry, Salvation Army, Wine Glass Marathon and Challenger Little League Baseball. Ryan has accepted a scholarship to play baseball at St. Bonaventure University. He is the son of David and Jodi Walker of Painted Post.
