Track/Cross-Country - 1998

Jeff Appel graduated from Corning West High School in 1981 following a tremendous career as a member of the cross country team and the track and field team. He was named to the All-STC team in cross country as a sophomore, junior and senior setting record after record.

Jeff Appel graduated from Corning West High School in 1981 following a tremendous career as a member of the cross country team and the track and field team. He was named to the All-STC team in cross country as a sophomore, junior and senior setting record after record. He was undefeated in dual meets as a senior when he was named the West High Athlete of the Year. Jeff played a major role in the Vikings undefeated season in 1978 and that same year captured the sectional championship. While competing for the West High track team, Jeff lost only one 3200 meter race in dual meets in two seasons when he ran in the 400, 800,1600 and 32000 meter races. Jeff won the sectional in the mile run as a junior and as a senior he captured the sectional championship in both the 1600 meter and 800 meter races. He took his running talent to East Stroudsburg (Pa).) University and when he graduated with honors he was named to the Who's Who in America Colleges for his success in the classroom and on the track. While at East Stroudsburg, Jeff qualified for the NCAA, Division II national track championships in the 1500 meter event. He also captained the team when they qualified for the Division II national cross country championships.
