ROBERTA AYERS

Volleyball - 2005

ROBERTA AYERS graduated from Corning West High in 1998. She highlighted  her high school career by being a member of the Vikings volleyball team that won the New York State Class B Championship in 1997. That came during her junior season when she was named to the All­-STC, First Team. As a senior, Roberta led the Vikings to Class B sectional and regional championships and then to the NYS Class B final four where they finished  second  in  the  championship.  Following  graduation,  Roberta  signed  to  play volleyball  at Division II, Mt Olive College in North Carolina. As  a freshman, she was second on the team in kills and led the team and conference with 80 service  aces. She was the Carolinas­Virginia Athletic Conference Player of the Week once and was named to the All-­Conference, Second Team and finished ninth in the nation in service aces. As a sophomore,  Roberta  led  the  team  and  conference  with  144  service  aces,  tied  school record with nine consecutive aces in a row, set a school career record with 233 aces and finished second  in  the  nation  in  Division  II  in  aces  per  game.  All  that  earned  her  an honorable mention for the All-­Conference team.
