ALAN BOX of East High (Stone Mountain, Ga.) won county and Section 5 track honors during the late '60s . . . Box in 1967 became the first Steuben half-miler to break the 2-minute barrier — running 1;58.4 at Hornell to break the 30-year record held by Francis (Dye) Hogan (later U. of Michigan star) of 2:01.5 set in 1936 . . . Two years running Box won the half mile at the Section V meet in Rochester (as a junior and senior) and was undefeated inthis event in 1967.
