LAURA KERSTING BARRE

Track & Field - 2006

LAURA KERSTING BARRE graduated from Corning West High School in 1987. She was a standout for the track and field team for four years as a long jumper, triple jumper, sprinter and a member of the relay team. Many times during her high school career, Laura was a four­event winner at meets. While in high school, Laura set records in the long jump, triple jump, 100 meter run, 200 meter run and set a Section 4 record in the long jump. As a senior she had amassed over 100 points in just the first five meets. While at West, she was also a key member of the gymnastics teams. After graduating from West, Laura went to Cornell University. After sitting out her freshman year with an injury, Laura made her mark in Cornell track history. She set and broke the long jump record three times. She was named to the All­Ivy League team three times  and qualified for the ECAC championships three times. She finished her career at Cornell as one of the top five scorers in team history while competing in the long jump, triple jump, 55 meter hurdles, 100 meter hurdles and 4 X 100 relay team. She also has captured two bronze medals while competing in the Empire State Games. Dr. Laura Kersting Barre competes now in the Masters Division and last year was named an All­American in her division in the long jump. She has also qualified for the National and World Tournaments.
