RYAN BIERWILER

Baseball - 2008

RYAN  BIERWILER  graduated  from Corning  West High School  in 1997 and took his diamond  talents  to Oneonta State. After being named an Honorable Mention in the STAC in high school, Ryan really blossomed in college and later while serving in the United States Navy. While at Oneonta State, Ryan set a school record for most doubles in a season and compiled a .342 average as a senior. He was also named to the SUNYAC and ECAC  All­Tournament  teams  twice.  Prior  to  college  ball,  Ryan  compiled  a  .333  average  in  the  Empire  State Games and hit .383, .363 and .405 during three seasons in American Legion ball. Following his graduation from Oneonta State, Ryan enlisted in the Navy. While in the Navy, Ryan had the distinction of playing baseball for both the West Coast Naval team and the East Coast Naval team. With over 400 sailors trying out for the team in San Diego, Ryan was selected. He was then transferred to the East Coast and was selected from a tryout of over 1,000 sailors. He was selected to play for Navy in the First Ever Navy­ Air Force baseball challenge at Camden Yards  in Baltimore  where  he  walked,  doubled  and  scored  twice  in  a  10­1  Navy  victory.  He  finished  his  naval career hitting .468 for the East Coast team.
