JOHN CAVALIER (Phoenix, Ariz.) took up baseball (pitcher, outfielder) in mid-30s as 17-year-old with Gang Mills town team . . . Offered Cardinals contract in '37; signed Dodgers' "B" League contract in '38 and pitched a season in Nebraska State League before severe muscle strains ended pro career . . . Later pitched for Corning Pyrex and semipro teams; starred as first baseman-outfielder in Twilight Softball League.
