Rowing - 2013

Robert Creath graduated from Corning East High in 1978. Following high school, his education process carried him to Syracuse University, University of Western Ontario, Corning Community College (AS), Cornell University (BS), Johns Hopkins University (MA) and the University of Maryland where he earned his PhD in Kinesiology in 2008. While at Syracuse he competed for the Freshman Rowing Team.  At Western Ontario University, Robert was part of the Varsity Lightweight 8 crew that in 1982 placed 2nd at the Dade Vail Regatta in Philadelphia and won the silver medal in the Canadian University Rowing Championships in Montreal. That same year his lightweight 8 shell also took 1st at the Central Ontario Championships in Welland, Ontario.  Robert competed several times in the Empire Games in both single and double sculls between 1983 and 1992 winning 2 bronze, 3 silver and 1 gold medal.  While these were all “sprint” races, he also recorded top 3 finishes in “distance” races in single sculls at the Head of the Ohio in Pittsburgh (’91 & ’92) along with a 1st place in 1997at the Wye Island Regatta in Easton, Md.  Robert has also been a successful coach at the University of Rochester, Jacksonville University in Florida and Cornell University as well as for the Baltimore, Md. Rowing Club.  He is currently an assistant professor at the University of Maryland.
