Soccer - 2009

JULIE DIEG took over the coaching reigns of the Corning District girls soccer team ten years ago and enjoyed immense success in her relatively short period of time on the sidelines. Before she got into coaching, Julie was a strong winner as a member of the Haverling High School team, graduating in 1992. From there, she went on to Keuka College where she started as a defender on a team that recorded 41 wins during her stint there that culminated in her selection as an Ail-American in 1995. Since taking over the girls team in Corning, her teams have won six STAC West Titles. Last year the Lady Hawks won the STAC West Title, the STAC Tournament and the Section IVTitle. What separates Julie from other coaches is her absolute devotion to her players. Countless former players have great things to say about their former coach. The true story is her annual Make-A-Wish fundraising walk Julie organizes in the memory of Clair Murray, the sister of one of her former players, Hannah Murray. Her passion, energy and care make this event special each and every year.
