Gretchen Grottenthaler becomes the first female to be inducted into the Corning-Painted Post Sports Hall of Fame in the sport of soccer. She graduated from Corning East in 1992 and was a four-year starter for the Corning District varsity soccer team. Showing her leadership qualities, Gretchen served as a team captain all four of those years. She was named to the All-STC first team all four years in high school and capped her brilliant career by being named as the league MVP following her senior season. Gretchen took her talents to Canisius College where she became a starter during her freshman and sophomore seasons. But she was forced to quit the team in her sophomore season because of a very severe case of exercise induced asthma. During her junior season in high school, Gretchen was named to the New York StateWestern team for the Olympic Development Program. She is currently living in Atlanta, Georgia.
