CLIVE HOWARD

Soccer - 1998

Clive Howard played for the Corning District soccer team in the 1985 and 1986 seasons under Hall of Fame coach Sandy Ostebo. He was regarded as one of the best defensive players in the STC during those two years and his play in the defensive end of the field was considered a huge contribution to the two league championships the Hawks won during that time. Clive was named to the All-STC team as both a junior and senior and was also named All-Twin Tiers both seasons. As a senior he so controlled the defensive end of the field that Clive was named the Most Valuable Player of the STC, a rare feat for a defensive player. Clive then took his talents to Alfred University, at that time a national power at the Division III level. He made the varsity team as a freshman but elected to leave the team halfway through the season due to a demanding academic load. Clive is currently working as a graphic designer at Cornell University and is still playing soccer in a local adult league. He is also involved at the coaching level by helping with the Corning Express, a youth travel team from this area.
