Wrestling - 2006

DOUG HOOVER graduated from Corning Northside High School in 1963 following a four year career on the Tigers wrestling team. After a tough freshman season, Doug went on win 25 of 33 matches in dual meets in some of the toughest wrestling  competition in the  area. As  a junior  and senior, Doug went  all the way to the sectional finals before losing both years. He won four tournaments and finished second three times. As a senior he was selected as a team co­captain, a title he also had as a member of the football team. While at Northside, Doug  earned ten letters for  athletics. After  graduating from Northside High School, Doug went  on to SUNY Brockport where he wrestled for three years and was one of the top wrestlers in that program. As a junior, Doug was fourth in the SUNY championships and finished third in the same tournament as a senior. Between 1963 and 1965  he scored  the  only  points  for  the  team  in  the  prestigious  Wilkes  Tournament.  He  was  instrumental  in helping Brockport  become  a  national  power  and  the school  has since  won five  NCAA  Division  III  National Titles. Doug still resides in the area.
