Motorsports - 1999
Earl Harp is one of the top drivers in the area, and in the past ten years he has become one of the drivers most likely to be named as the track champion when the year comes to a close. In 1994 Earl won the combined points championship as the high point car between the tracks at Woodhull and Dundee. Earl won the championship at Black Rock Speedway three of the last four years with 1998 perhaps his most successful season to date. He won nine heat races, eight feature races and had a total of 18 top four finishes. He has received a number of Driver of the Week awards and up until the 1998 season he was an owner/driver. In 1997 Earl decided to give up the ownership aspect of the business and concentrate on driving. He joined forces with Dave Machuga and they have proved to be an almost unbeatable team. Earl's interest in racing began in 1988 when he started racing snowmobiles. He won the Northeast Spring and Formula 540 Championships that first year. The following year he tried to qualify for the World Championship race in Eagle River, Wisconsin finishing 15th out of 50 but they only took the top 12 sleds. Earl will continue his racing career this year when he once again gets ready to race at both Woodhull and Dundee's Black Rock Speedway.
