EDWARD HICKEY

EDWARD HICKEY (deceased) started for the varsity football team at Corning East during the middle 60s. He was one of the top tacklers from his linebacker position and led the Trojans during his senior year when he was named to the All-STC first team on defense. Was recruited by and played for Mansfield University for three seasons before graduating in 1970. He led the team in tackles during his senior season and according to former head coach, Bernie Sabol, was the key element in Mansfield's first victory over East Stroudsburg in 15 years. He was killed in an automobile accident in Pennsylvania in 1971. In his memory each year East High School presents the Ed Hickey Memorial Award to the most outstanding defensive lineman.
