Basketball - 1998

Kevin Havens became the first basketball player ever at Corning East to score over 1,000 points in his career. He became a starter for the varsity in the middle of eighth grade and led the Trojans in scoring and rebounding as sophomore, junior and senior. When he graduated in 1990 he was the all-time leading scorer in Corning East history. Kevin was named All-STC as a junior and a senior when he averaged 21 and 19 points per game respectively and garnered Player of the Year honors as a senior. His teams won four SCL Championships, an STC Chcampionship and four Christmas Tournament Championships. After playing at the Naval Academy for two years, Kevin transferred to Ithaca College where he turned in two stellar campaigns for the Bombers. Following his junior season at Ithaca College, he was named to the all-Empire Athletic Association second-team on the strength of his 13.3 scoring average and also grabbed 7.4 rebounds per game. Kevin was named to the Empire Athletic Association first-team as a senior when he averaged a double-double per game. He also was named to the Basketball Honors Court by the National Association of Basketball Coaches for his outstanding academic work. Kevin joins brother, Tom (baseball-1983) in the C-PP Hall of Fame.
