Carol Wolverton Johnston (Jacksonville, North Carolina) was one of top performers for the Corning West track teams in the 1970s...during her career at West, she set a school record in the 440 run and also was a part of the mile relay team record breakers—those two records still stand today—following her sophomore, junior and senior seasons, Carol qualified for state track meet competition—she took her considerable talents to Cornell University where she was a four-year member of both the track and cross-country teams for the Big Red—Carol set the meet record in the two-mile run in 1978, 79 and 80...After finishing second in the Colonial Days run in 1978 she came back with back-to-back wins in 1979 and 1980...In 1980 she won both the Ithaca 5 and 10K runs and the Elmira-Thon 10K run...Carol was also a member of the West swim team during her high school career.
