Soccer - 1999

Sammy Ly becomes the second member of this soccer playing family to be inducted into the Corning-Painted Post Sports Hall of Fame, joining his brother Dominick Ly who was inducted as a charter soccer member in 1995. Sammy graduated from Corning East in 1987 after a stellar career as one of the most accomplished goalies in the school's history. During his three-year stint as the netminder, Sammy started 52 games and recorded a remarkable 20 shutouts and averaged almost eight saves per game. He was named to the All-STC first team following his junior and senior seasons and led Corning to STC titles both years including a berth in the Section IV finals in 1986 versus eventual state champion Vestal. Following his high school career, Sammy went to Corning Community College where he started for two seasons primarily as the right fullback and was named to the all-league team in 1989. Sammy went on to graduate from Clarkson University and currently lives in Walton, N. Y. where he works as a civil engineer for the U.S. Department of Agriculture
