Golf - 1998
Steve Loomis graduated from Corning West in the mid 1970s where he was named to the All-STC team and in 1975 captured the Steuben County High School Golf Championship. He went on to play golf while attending Rochester Institute of Technology and led RIT to an undefeated dual match record in the 1978-79 season. Steve served as the captain of the RIT team the next year when he finished second in the Penn State Invitational and was the medalist of the Cornell Spring Invitational when his team won the tournament championship. Following a successful collegiate career, Steve settled into Painted Post area and became a regular at the championship of the Indian Hills Golf Club. He has won the championship at that course seven times with the most recent title coming in the 1996 season. Steve won the Twin Tiers Championship in 1995 after finishing as the runner-up in 1987, 91, and 93. He won the Joe Smith Invitational in 1994 with last years' golf Hall of Famer Jim Edmister. He has also won best ball tournaments at courses in Waverly, Watkins Glen and Mansfield. Steve has also twice qualified for the New York state Amateur Championships in 1989 and 1991. He also served as the President of the Indian Hills Golf Club for three years.
