ALAN MAGEE was a coach and advisor for over 20 years at Corning West High School. After graduating from West High in 1966, Alan came back to his alma mater in the mid 1970s and girls sports would never be the same. He was a pioneer of sorts for girls sports at the high school level in this area. He became the first coach of the girls basketball team in 1977 and led them for three years. He made his mark coaching girls tennis at West and over a ten year period compiled a record of 55-35 which included 33 straight league wins. His 1981-82 tennis teams went unbeaten in 20 matches, won the STCTitle and Section IV Championship, becoming the first girls team in the district to ever win a sectional title. Alan came back to the girls basketball program in the 1990s to coach the JV squad. His techniques of teaching the basic fundamentals and team play turned those girls into State Champions when the West varsity girls won the 1995 state title. Alan was also instrumental in forming the annual sports banquet and served as an advisor to the Varsity W Club for a dozen years. Alan currently lives in Little River, South Carolina.
