Baseball - 2011
JOE MAGLIOCCA was a three-year starter at catcher for the Corning East baseball team that won the 1995 New York State Class B Championship. His outstanding play behind the plate (not one passed ball) was very key for the strong pitching staff under the guidance of coach Bill Thomas who said he was like a second coach on the field. Joe capped his high school career by being named the Most Valuable Player of the State Tournament when he went 6 for 8 with 8 RBI’s in the two final games. It should be noted that this Corning East team lost its first game of the season in the Myrtle Beach Tournament and never lost again that season, winning 24 in a row. He had a career .330 batting average at East including a .363 mark as a senior. Joe was also a key member of the outstanding Corning American Legion team in the mid-1990s. After East he went to Cortland State University where he was part of the 1996 team that finished 2nd in the NCAA Regional Tournament. He then went on to play one more year for Corning Community College where he received his Associate Degree in 1997.
