Swimming - 1998

Julie Kent Miller graduated from Corning East High following a six year career as a member of the Trojans swimming teams. She began her varsity career as a seventh-grader and was named the team Most Valuable Player as freshman, sophomore, junior and senior. During her junior and senior seasons she set record after record swimming in the 50,100,200 and 500 freestyle as well as the 200 individual medley, the 100 butterfly along with the 200 medley relay team and the 400 meter freestyle relay team. She was almost a swimming team by herself. She won the Sectional championship in both Class A and Class B in the 50 and 100 freestyle as a senior and the Class B title in both events as a junior. Five times she was named to the All-STC first team which is an honor that is determined solely on actual swimming times in league meets. Having qualified for the NYS swim meet, Julie finished llth in the 100 freestyle and 14th in the 50 freestyle as a senior. According to Hall of Fame swimming coach Cyndy Adler, Julie was an inspirational team leader and played a major role in the growth of the Corning East swim team. Some of her records still stand today. Following her high school career, Julie went to Cornell University. She will be joined in her induction into the A Hall of Fame tonight by her husband Bob who is" being inducted in the sport of lacrosse.
