MATT MCLENNAN

Wrestling - 1997

Matt McLennan graduated from Corning West in 1990 after accumulating a remarkable record of 100 wins versus only nine losses for the Corning District Wrestling team during a career that saw him go undefeated in dual meets. Competing in 19 high school tournaments, he finished first 11 times and second five times. Matt was All-STTC as a sophomore (119 lbs.), a junior (126) and as a senior (138). His combined record during his junior and senior seasons was 64-3. He took his wrestling skills to the collegiate level at SUNY Brockport and SUNY Cortland where he qualified for the national championships three times. In 1992 at Brockport, Matt won the National Championship and was named as a fifth-team All-American. Three times during his wrestling career, he captured the silver medal in the Empire State Games, once at the high school level and twice as a collegiate competitor in open free style wrestling. Matt also participated in the International Dual meet against Japan. As a senior in high school, Matt was a George Bacalles Memorial Award winner at the 1990 C-PP Hall of Fame dinner. He is currently teaching physical education in the Elmira school district and passing on his wrestling knowledge as the coach of the Corning District 7th and 8th grade modified team.
