Baseball - 2004

STEVE MANDELL, JR. graduated from Corning East High School following a five-year career as the starting catcher for the Trojans. He made the varsity baseball team at East as an 8th grader and earned the starting job halfway through the season. Steve remained the starting catcher for the remainder of his high school career. He was named All-STC as a junior and senior and won the Kerri Leipold Award as the out-standing senior at East before going on to play for Monroe Community College where he led that team to the League Championship two years running. Prior to going to the college, Steve also played for the local American Legion team leading them to the Connors League championship with a team high .422 batting average. He also played for the Elmira Junior Pioneers following his senior year in high school.
