Bill Thomas took over as the baseball coach at Corning East in 1985 and since the formation of the STC in 1967. He has become the winningest skipper for the Trojans with an overall record of 145 wins and 85 losses. Perhaps the crowning moment in Bill's coaching career was winning the NYSPHSAA Class B Championship in 1995. It was a season that saw East win the STC championship with an undefeated season, capture the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Classic and the Section IV championship. Between 1994 and 1996, Thomas' Trojan teams won an area record of 32 consecutive overall games and 28 consecutive in the tough STC. Bill became the first coach in STC history in win four consecutive league championships from 1993 to 1996 when East went 45-4 in the STC. His teams have played in more Sectional finals than any other coach in the section. Bill has also served as the STC League Coordinator since 1987. He was named the Star-Gazette and Elmira Umpire's Association Coach of the Year in both 1991 and 1995. Bill is extremely proud of his 'kids' and his program and is the first one to heap praise on assistants John Knapp and Lenny Mokan. Bill is currently teaching at Northside Blodgett middle school and looking forward to coaching the Trojans to an unprecedented fifth consecutive league crown in the 1997 season.
