Joe Tobia has been coaching lacrosse in the Corning School District since 1986 as the junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant at Corning East and as the varsity head coach at Corning West. During his stint as the jayvee head coach at East, Joe put together a remarkable record of 192 wins, with only sixteen losses and four ties. Four of those teams went undefeated and during a four year stretch from 1992 to 1995 his teams went 60-1. As a varsity assistant at East for two years, Joe helped guide the Trojans to a 39-4 mark that gave him a won-loss mark at East of 231-20-4.
This past season, Joe moved across town to take over the West High varsity lacrosse position from longtime friend and longtime Viking coach, Joe Stratton. The results were very similar. He guided the Vikings to their first-ever Class B, Sectional Championship with a 17-4 record. For his efforts, Joe was named the Section IV Coach of the Year. Counting last year, Joe's total lacrosse coaching record stands at 248-24-4.
During his career, Joe has coached ten High School All-Americans. He has also coached varsity softball, varsity girls basketball and junior varsity football. Joe has served a number of years as the Director of Athletics at East High.
