Baseball - 2010

GREG WALKER was a four-year varsity baseball player at Corning East, graduating in 1972 after compiling a won-loss record of 27-8. He was one of only a handful of pitchers to win 25 games for the Trojans. Greg was a starting pitcher for East and was named All-STC as a junior and senior while serving as the ‘Ace’ of the staff. He led the STC in strikeouts his final two seasons and was among the league’s leaders in wins. In one seven inning game, Greg struck out all 21 batters he faced.  He was at his best with a 4-1 record against cross-town rival Corning West. Following graduation, he joined the Bath American Legion team where he teamed with C-PP Hall of Famer Bob Rossi to form a lethal one-two punch. Greg also played semi-pro baseball with the Cohocton Red Wings under the leadership of Jim Burke where he compiled an 8-2 record with 79 K’s in just 74 innings. After his baseball days, Greg played in adult softball leagues and was one of the top players in the area. He also has given back to baseball by coaching at the youth level for several years.
