TOM WILLIAMS

Swimming - 2005

TOM WILLIAMS attended school in the Corning District until the ninth grade when he transferred to Mercersberg Academy. When Tom left in the ninth grade, he held every swim team record with the exception of diving. He was named All­-STC as a 7th, 8th and 9th grader. In the ninth grade, Tom held 44 Corning District records, 31 pool records and four STC records while going undefeated in all his individual events. It was then on to Mercersberg where he was a member of the National High School Champion 200 medley relay team. He  earned  a swimming scholarship to the University of Tennessee. In 1996 he helped the Volunteers to the South Eastern Conference championship. As a senior he was named team captain and was named Mr. Clutch at the U of T awards banquet.. Eight times Tom was named a High School All-American. He won three individual events at the 1994 New York YMCA championships and holds two New York YMCA state records. While he was on dry land, Tom earned his Eagle Scout award.
